Color Similarity Comparator

Compare two colors and measure their visual difference using Delta E calculations.

About Color Similarity

Our Color Similarity Comparator helps you determine how different two colors appear to the human eye. It uses the CIE76 Delta E formula, which measures the perceptual distance between colors in the LAB color space.

A Delta E of 0 means identical colors, while values above 10 are clearly distinguishable. This is useful for checking brand color consistency, verifying color accuracy, and ensuring sufficient visual distinction.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Delta E?

Delta E (ΔE) is a metric that quantifies the difference between two colors in the CIELAB color space. It ranges from 0 (identical) to 100 (completely different). Values below 2 are imperceptible, below 10 are similar, and above 20 are clearly different.

What Delta E is acceptable for brand consistency?

For brand colors, a Delta E below 2 is ideal (imperceptible difference). Below 5 is generally acceptable for most applications. Above 10 means the colors are noticeably different.

How is the similarity percentage calculated?

The similarity percentage is derived from the Delta E value relative to the maximum possible Delta E (~100). A lower Delta E means higher similarity.
